La Maestra Community Health Centers

SAN DIEGO, CA – As the name illustrates, La Maestra (the teacher) believes that the basis for any social change and effective healthcare outcome is education.  36,440 sq. ft. Community Health Center is a LEED Gold Certified project completed in June 2010.

Ambition: To create a project that represented the diverse refugee population of the community while keeping within the constraints of a LEED GOLD building and the owners vision to support and educate the patients through their “Circle of Care”.

Complete interior design consulting from schematic design to contract administration was provided, exterior color consultation, an interior and exterior signage program incorporating way finding through the use of various forms and components.

Accomplishment: We accomplished a project that provides a sense of achievement and reassurance for the owners, employees, volunteers and the community of diverse patients.  The Center will grow allowing them to serve approximately 90,000 residents a year.  The facility is comprised of a Pharmacy, Health Services, Pediatrics, Family Practice, OB/GYN, Dental and walk-ins.  A child play area will support literacy and education of the English language with murals in Pediatrics exam rooms continuing this education through the use of murals.

Support services include Medical Records, Physicians Offices, Administrative Offices, Training, Health Services and a Gift Shop/Thrift Boutique supported Micro-Loan businesses and Coffee Shop/Café will complete the project.
